Volunteer Opportunities

MOW staff, which includes an executive director, cook, kitchen assistant, route coordinator, bookkeeper, and receptionist guides the work of the volunteers. Each volunteer works a minimum of two hours weekly.

Food Service Kitchen volunteers help prepare meals and pack hot and cold boxes for delivery.

Meal Delivery Volunteer drivers use their own automobile and can choose a day(s) to deliver meals Monday - Friday. Delivery time is typically 10:00am to 12:00pm, however their role is far more important than the meals they deliver. They are often the only contact our customers have all day. They provide a warm smile and a caring attitude. They are a safety check to help ensure our customer's well being. They are the eyes and ears of Meals On Wheels and often alert us to customers with additional needs. We are able to schedule most volunteers for service near their home or office.

The volunteer picks up the meals at the Winter Haven location for Winter Haven, Auburndale, Haines City and Davenport delivery. Haines City and Davenport drop coolers off at designated locations in Haines City and Davenport and do not return to Winter Haven after delivery. Lakeland drivers pick up their meals at 1st Presbyterian Church (South) and North Lakeland Presbyterian Church (North). Volunteers deliver approximately 8-15 meals in their area and delivery generally takes approximately one-two hours. Volunteers provide their own transportation.

Substitute Delivery Route Volunteers can be on call to deliver meals when other drivers are unavailable.

Group Delivery Opportunities-Many organizations such as churches, civic and business groups can join together to deliver meals as a team.

Thrift Store Volunteer opportunities are also available in our thrift store located directly behind our food service building.

Fundraising volunteers are needed especially during our 2 large fundraisers - Silent Auction and Walkathon.
